Thrombophlebitis is an inflammation of the vein wall with a blood clot (blood clot) clogging the vein. The most common is thrombophlebitis of the lower extremities. An important role is played by an increase in blood clotting, a change in the vein wall. Most often, thrombophlebitis develops with varicose veins. Hirudotherapy for thrombophlebitis is a very effective method of treatment. The active substances and biological compounds that make up the leech saliva, such as hirudin, destabilase, and bdellin, break down and dissolve already formed blood clots and prevent the formation of new ones. Setting leeches for thrombophlebitis helps to relieve edema, pain, normalizes blood circulation in the veins and tissues, relieves the load on the bloodstream. The method of treatment of thrombophlebitis with leeches is similar to the method of hirudotherapy for varicose veins: it is necessary to conduct a course of 10-15 sessions at the rate of 4-8 leeches per session. In some cases, up to 15 individuals are used at a time. The exact number of leeches to produce depends on the severity of the disease. The break between sessions should be 2-3 days. Repeat the course after 4-6 months in order to prevent and consolidate the result. 1) The area of the affected vein, in a staggered order (dots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7). 2) In the area of brown skin pigmentation, metabolic disorders of the lower extremities (points 8, 9, 10, 11, 12).Precautions: Do not put leeches with thrombophlebitis on the vein itself, where the skin is thin and the vein is visible and protruding. This can cause severe bleeding! Leeches are placed at a distance of 1-2 centimeters on both sides of the affected area of the vein. When treating thrombophlebitis with leeches, you should also avoid the area under the knee, as there is a large accumulation of lymph nodes. With great caution, it is necessary to put leeches in the inguinal zones (this need may arise when the deep veins and pelvic veins are affected). If the areas where the leeches are supposed to be placed are covered with vegetation, it should be removed.
